Holy smokes... it's April? Why didn't anybody tell me? Not only April, but April 9th. So let's talk about some D-learnin' then...
-I'm breaking up with pizza. I truly give up, I cannot make it work for Elise. This is odd for me because it is a rather recent thing. I always give her homemade pizza, using whole wheat pita flat bread as a crust. I even sprinkle the cheese sparingly, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. She will ALWAYS go low about an hour afterwards (which of course we have to give her carbs for), then shoot into the high 300s overnight. Up until about 3 months ago, we never had a problem. It's a shame... she really does love pizza.
-They need to make some more fun, small items to fit into those plastic Easter eggs. When I went shopping for Elise's Easter basket a few weeks ago, the only thing out there for the most part is candy. I did find some fun stickers, chapstick, cars, and some rings... but that was about it. She also got a whole bunch of eggs with coins in them since we just bought her a piggy bank and she has become obsessed with "putting her monies in the pig".
-Sorbet is a great alternative to ice cream for Elise. You don't have the high fat content to deal with, and since it's made with real fruit, in my mind it's healthier. If this is not true, please keep your comments to yourself, I wish to remain living in my fantasy world.
I always look forward to your monthly D lessons! :-)
ReplyDeleteAhhhh....pizza! I myself dont have sugar issues with pizza, I do a dual wave on the pump and I end up just fine. Maddie however...ACK! Even with a fancy dancy pump you never know what your gonna get!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that happens with pizza to a lot of kids, so far not Alivia but I'm sure it will someday!
ReplyDeleteI went to the party store for prizes to fill the eggs with, they had bouncy balls, necklaces, braclets, mini bubbles, nail polish, earings and so much more! And we did a lot of coins too!
How long until "we" get to find out if Elise gets a brother or a sister???
I've got another 2 weeks until my "big" appointment. I'll be posting as soon as I'm able!
ReplyDeleteI hate pizza too! Avery loves it but I swear his numbers are messed up for days afterward! Even with the homemade stuff its still annoying. I hope you guys had a great Easter!!
ReplyDeleteWe have pizza once a month. When we do, I know it'll be a long night of double checking, but it is just SO convenient and SO good!!
ReplyDeletePIZZA sucks the big one for us too...and JOE.LOVES.PIZZA. He can tolerate it for lunch with a combo bolus, but dinner is another story. I think with going to bed right after the "consumption" of the cheezy oooey gooey goodness his body catapults his BGs right up to the high 200s or 300s even with many "fancy" pump maneuvers...like a combo with a basal increase 1 hour after eating etc. Although, I will be more aggressive now that I have "Dexter" on the job.
ReplyDeleteWe have a love-hate relationship with pizza. Jack love, love, loves it. It makes for an easy dinner and all three kids will eat it...but we can't have it too often for dinner, because it does the same thing to Jack. I let him eat it weekly for lunch at school (the only meal he ever buys at school), because we seem to be able to manage it okay. But for dinner, ugh, it leads to a very late, long night, and it's just not worth it too often. We like sorbet for the same reasons. :)
ReplyDeleteah the dreaded pizza I dont even try it anymore . Nope no matter what I cant make it work for me .
ReplyDeleteIf we let the girls eat "regular" pizza, regular crust, normal cheese and other toppings their blood sugars are gross for at least 36 hours. Our endo in CA said to order or make the thin, crispy crust and keep the toppings simple - either all veggies or something like canadian bacon & pineapple, light on the cheese and so long as we do this we have no problems. Thank goodness they'll eat pretty much anything.
ReplyDelete:( Pizza and Chinese food: Recipes for long nights!
ReplyDeleteIn my anti-candy Easter search I found some cool little pill-looking things to go in the eggs that, in warm water, change into little sponge Easter shapes. Both kids loved them. Just a thought for next year.
Drat YOU PIZZA!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the sorbet thing...it's totally healthy ;) Perhaps even meal worthy...I think I'll have some for breakfast right now.
